When was the last time you checked your website? Grab your lemonade, because we need to have a little chat about your website. When was the last time you gave it a good squeeze? If it’s been a few years or even longer, there’s a good chance things have gone a little stale. If you don’t have a website, I strongly recommend you get one for your business. GreenGeeks is my go-to for hosting my website and I absolutely love it.
I recently helped one of my client update their site. It was so clunky, you could barely navigate around. Today, a website should be modern and responsive. Say what? What’s that? A responsive website is one that adjusts itself beautifully whether someone is viewing it on a desktop, phone, or tablet. Think of it as like your website putting on the right outfit for every occasion. Trust me, it makes a big difference.
So, if you’re wondering whether it’s time for a website refresh, here are a few juicy tips to help you out.
1. Check Your Links
You might be surprised at how many links have quietly gone bad over time. I sure was. Broken links are like sour lemons—they leave a bad taste for visitors. While you’re at it, make sure external links open in a new tab so people can easily come back to your site.
2. Read Every Page
Yes, every single one. Does your website still sound like you? Is your message clear? Does it tell people why they’d want to work with you? I once saw a business site missing all their social icons contact page. Read through your content, check spacing and fonts, and don’t be afraid to do a complete refresh of everything.
3. Get Great Graphics
Look closely—are your images crisp, current, and professional? Or are they a little fuzzy around the edges? Maybe that headshot is from your pre-pandemic hair era. A few bright, high-quality images can make your site shine like a freshly polished lemon. I love using Canva for making quick graphics.
4. View on Your Smartphone
More than half of all visitors will view your site from their phone. If it’s not easy to read or navigate, they’ll bounce faster than a lemon rolling off the counter. Make sure everything looks good and functions smoothly on mobile. A responsive website will automatically adjust to fit a mobile view.
5. Review Your Dashboard
Behind-the-scenes care matters, too. Check if your domain name is still active. Log in and check your plugins, updates, and software. Old or unused tools can slow things down. Keeping your website tech up to date is like cleaning your juicer—it runs better and lasts longer.
Your website is often the first impression people have of your business. It’s where they decide whether to trust you, hire you, or move on to someone else. So, take a little time to freshen things up and make sure it reflects who you are today. Don’t forget to include where they can find you on other platforms (such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Tik Tok, and Alignable).
A website refresh doesn’t have to be a full overhaul—it’s just giving your digital lemonade stand a good stir. Keep it fresh, bright, and true to your flavor. Now, go take a sip of that lemonade and start making your site sparkle again.
