Hey,
Life’s hectic isn’t it? I know you’re hustling like the world might fall apart if you take a breath. You’re convinced that busy equals worthy and that rest is something you earn only after you’ve practically sprinted through life. But I need you to pause for a second, because there’s something you don’t know yet.
One day, you’ll lose someone who matters. Someone whose laugh you can still hear when the room is quiet. The night you say goodbye to your loved one, the sky will light up in a way you’ve never seen before. Deep greens, fierce purples, even streaks of red painting the sky like the universe is whispering, “Slow down. Look up. Remember what matters.”
You’re going to realize that time with the people you love isn’t something you squeeze in around everything else. It’s the whole point. Those moments around the kitchen table, the stories shared, the random coffee runs, the check-ins you keep pushing to “next week”. Those are the real treasures. Life will remind you of that in the softest and harshest ways.
But here’s the tricky part. You still have bills. Responsibilities. A world that does not pause for healing, heartbreak, or auroras. So what do you do? You learn to stop treating yourself like the last item on your own list. You make rest a requirement, not a reward. You give yourself permission to step away when your soul feels wrung out. You understand that showing up for your own mental health actually makes you better at showing up everywhere else.
There’s a reason flight attendants tell you to put your oxygen mask on first. You can’t save anyone if you’re passed out. Same goes for life. You’ve got to secure your own oxygen, energy, sanity and citrusy glow before you can pour anything into anyone else.
Prioritizing your mental health isn’t selfish. It’s lemon logic. You recharge so you can show up with zest, not burnout. You rest so you don’t crack like week-old lemon bars. You take care of you so the people you love get the best version of you, not the over-squeezed one. Oxygen mask first. Lemon mask second. Then go be the vibrant little ray of sunshine this world actually needs.
Balancing obligations and well-being isn’t a perfect science. That’s okay. What matters is that you keep choosing intention over autopilot. You let the people you love know they’re your priority, and you let yourself be one too.
One day, you’ll look back and thank yourself for learning this sooner rather than later.
Love, the girl with a little more mileage and a lot more clarity
